We source, coordinate and can act as custodian of the temporary test locations that let vendors focus on the project deliverable, while we provide the controlled environment that allows it to happen.

The Problem

Testing on Site Is the Most Expensive Place to Find a Fault

By the time a containerised power module reaches a live data centre site, the cost of a defect is measured in programme delay, crane hire, principal contractor access and the goodwill of everyone waiting on it.

We support Tier 1 contractors and manufacturers with an offsite provisioning location in close proximity to the end-user site, so their Level 2 to Level 4 testing can be completed in a controlled environment.

Our Role

Principal Contractor and Custodian

GWT Critical Infrastructure acts as principal contractor and custodian of the temporary offsite test location. We take responsibility for the site itself, so the vendor can concentrate on the equipment.

1. SourceIdentify and secure a suitable location near the end-user project, with the access, hardstand and clearances the equipment requires.
2. Set upEstablish the site as principal contractor: site-specific safety and access controls, laydown and staging, connection arrangements and the site management system.
3. PowerProvide temporary power to suit the project requirements, including for capacity testing.
4. TestAssist Level 2 to Level 4 testing alongside the vendor's engineers.
5. DemobiliseOn completion of the project, demobilise the location and make good the site.
Temporary Power

Temporary Power Set-Up, Including for Capacity Testing

A power module cannot be meaningfully tested off a builder's supply. We set up temporary power arrangements sized to the project, so the equipment can be exercised under a representative load.

Sized to the project

Temporary supply arranged to suit the equipment under test and the programme, rather than whatever happens to be available on the ground.

Capacity testing

Load arrangements that let the vendor run capacity and functional testing at representative levels before shipment.

DC load bank capability

Constant-current DC load bank capacity for battery and rectifier system testing.

Configured per project. Temporary power and load arrangements are confirmed for each engagement based on the equipment, the site and the tests the vendor needs to complete.
Testing Levels

Where the Test Location Sits in the Programme

Testing runs from Level 1 through Level 5. The offsite test location covers the middle of that sequence, deliberately overlapping with what is later repeated on the installed system.

  • Level 1 — factory acceptance testing at the manufacturer, before the equipment arrives
  • Level 2 — component verification and static checks at the test location
  • Level 3 — system start-up and pre-functional checks
  • Level 4 — functional performance testing under load, repeated later on the installed system
  • Level 5 — whole-of-system checks led by the project team on the project site

Where a project refers to a "Level 6", that is close-out and handover rather than a test level.

Continuity through to site

Where our sister company, GWT Critical Projects, holds the DC power installation scope for the project, it performs that scope at the test location under its own contract and supervision.

It then delivers its installation scope on the project site and supports the vendor through the repeated Level 4 checks. Two companies, two contracts, one continuous understanding of the equipment.
